Today, we're thrilled to have Alex Sher, DO, arising first year psychiatry resident and writer for the D.O. who was born and raised in southern florida. Alex’s story is special as medicine is a second career and he started as an Registered Nurse on a Surgical floor. Dr. Sherd had a thirst for knowledge and went back to school at night while working full time to get a degree as a Nurse Practitioner, ultimately working in a family practice and then an Urgent Care Clinic. With the support of some strong Osteopathic Mentors, Alex picked up his family and moved to Tennessee to attend the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Alex will discuss with us how As a non-traditional student with a family, he navigated the challenges of taking the MCAT, returning to college, and applying to medical school. He offers valuable advice to those considering different paths in healthcare. He will explain his pride in Osteopathic Medicine that led him to become active on the DO magazines Editorial advisory board.
